A Field of Flowers

As is tradition, a week of stories about people I saw at Lollapalooza. Seen during Lana Del Rey's set at The Grove stage at about 8:30 p.m., August 2nd, 2013

A field of flowers shoots up from the heads of girls just old enough to know the dark side of blossoms--opium comes from poppies, rhododendrons are poisonous, and so on. Beneath the lights, a woman sings of Friday night parties and alcohol and sex, and the girls, appreciative of her candor, squeal their approval. They do not fail to note the melancholy melodies, the funeral strings, the death in her throaty voice. Rather, they choose to face the consequences of their actions with a triumphant apathy--broken hearts and fatty livers. Confusion. Hospital visits.

A lot of the stories are going to be about young people. I felt like the oldest person at lolla this year. Quarter-life crisis.
